Prayer life at the Western Wall highlighted this week's news from Jerusalem. Two story lines dominated the reports.
The first was of a decision made by the rabbi in charge of the Western Wall to open another space south of the present prayer halls for men and women to pray together. What news! The one question that I always get standing there before a group is: why is there a dividing wall between men and women? This reality hits our western sensibilities hard and flies in the face of the "progress that we have made in such matters."
A second piece of news is an ongoing story. There were more arrests of women praying in their designated area but with prayer shawls and performing ritual acts reserved for Jewish men.
We will stay tune for continuing news in regards to this struggle. Let us pray for our sisters and brothers!
