A City Set on a Hill

Hippos, a City of the Decapolis

Jesus said "you are the light of the world.  A city set on a hill cannot be hid...  Let your light so shine..."  When traveling in Israel, numerous sites are pointed out as the inspiration for His saying.  The most common ones are Korazim and Sepphoris.  Since both are prominently visible from a distance, it is rather easy to see the association.

Recently, I heard someone offer Hippos on the eastern hillside of the Sea of Galilee.  He noted the ancient city set on high but also the prominent position that it held in promoting Greek and Roman culture and ways.  This latter point makes sense to me as to the call of Jesus regarding witness then and now in today's world.
