Following in the Footsteps of Jesus

We are in Galilee today.  Along the way, we will visit the towns and places that Jesus visited and where he ministered.

There is something special about the Galilee.  Away from the bustle of a Bethlehem or Jerusalem, the landscape seems much like it was in the time of Jesus.  For this reason, it makes following in the footsteps of Jesus somewhat easier.

While some of the sites like Tabgha have had churches built over the site of a gospel event, numerous places have been left untouched.  This oversight or intention aids the pilgrim's quest to follow her Lord.

The biggest surprise here in the Galilee is the modern church building at Capernaum.

As one approaches the site, there appears what looks very much like a "spaceship."  The initial reaction is extremely negative, but this changes as one understands the why of the style of architecture.  The modern builders have preserved beneath the new structure the ancient venerated room where many scholars believe Jesus stayed while in Capernaum.
The natural setting of the Galilee and efforts like that of the folks at Capernaum over the years make the lake region a favorite of pilgrims.  It is certainly one of mine.
