Brenda and I are visiting friends in Parkesburg, PA, this week. Our visit is both business and personal. Our friends are the Reverend Doctor Dan and Sue MacDonald. We first met them while teaching a group which they served as tour hosts in the Holy Land.
The "business" part of our trip was a one-day Local Church Seminar offered by the Jerusalem Center for Biblical Studies. In addition to teaching a combined Adult Sunday School Class, I preached at the morning service. The theme for the first hour was "Hearing Jesus Again through the Fifth Gospel." At the second hour, the sermon was "The Good News Is that There Was No Last Supper."
The goal of the Local Church Seminar is to bring to the Church in the U. S. insights from the Fifth Gospel for a richer understanding of the biblical text. The Fifth Gospel is the land of the Bible itself. In other words, there is a "geography of salvation." This seminar does not replace a trip to the Holy Land, but it is a step in that direction.
Oh, the "personal" was what I call a baseball road trip. The four of us visited Major League Baseball parks in Philadelphia, Washington and Baltimore.
