Exploring the City of David in Jerusalem

Exploring Warren's Shaft in the City of David

We began our day in the City of Bethlehem and concluded it in the City of David.  If this is confusing, you are right.  The scriptures tell us that David was born and lived in Bethlehem.  Thus, we have thought of Bethlehem as the City of David.

While this is certainly correct, most Jews today refer to the lower hill (and original hill) of Jerusalem as the City of David.  David captured the Jebusite city and made it the capital of the kingdom of Israel.

Only recently has the site come into prominence as a tourist destination.  For many, the area is too politically controversial for a visit.  Today we ventured here and saw what some think are David's palace, the shaft that David's men climbed to gain access to the city, King Hezekiah's Tunnel, and the Pool of Siloam.

All in all, it was a remarkable day not without physical challenge.  The day culminated with a visit of the "newly" discovered Pool of Siloam and 1st century street to Temple Mount.
