It's Christmas again in this land, the Orthodox Christmas! Back home, you are celebrating Epiphany. There will be yet another Christmas here. It will be January 18 and celebrated by the Armenians.
Today, we left Galilee in a driving rain. It stormed on us throughout almost the entire journey up to Jerusalem.
Along the way, we stopped at Beth Shean and later saw the sixth century (CE) synagogue at Beit Alpha. We traversed the Jezreel Valley, stopping at Nain where Jesus raised the widow's son (Luke 7:11), and later seeing the ruins of Megiddo.
Our final stop of the day was Mount Carmel, where Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal and Jezebel (I Kings 18). From the top of Carmel, the sun broke through long enough for us to see the Mediterranean Sea at a distance.
We have learned that this is a marvelously diverse country. Despite the rain today, we continued onward and deepened our gratitude for the privilege that is ours to be here.
