Election Day in Israel

Today was "election day" in Israel.  There was a holiday atmosphere as we traveled from the Galilee in the north to Jerusalem.  Few seemed to be working; families could be found around picnics.

Orange and red party flags streamed from automobiles.  Signs dominated round-abouts. Schools hosted polling sites.  It was not unlike home on election day.

Having discussed the kings of Israel over the last few days, I thought of the hopes of voters on any election day.  Will this time be different?  Will the chosen leaders have the qualities of King David or a King Herod?  Could they not have the servant spirit of King Jesus?

Perhaps we expect too much of our politicians.  But could we not at least be able to provide for our family and live in peace?  That is what I hear most often from people here and back home.
