The season of pilgrimage is near. For many who visit this site or follow this blog, the upcoming year will be your "next year in Jerusalem." As such, you are involved already in preparation for this pilgrimage or looking to begin.
One of the questions that I am most often asked is: "what can I do to prepare for the maximum experience?" It's a great question when one is making this kind of investment of time and resources.
Perhaps the best place to begin is to sharpen your purpose in this undertaking and to set goals. Is your purpose to draw nearer to God in your spiritual walk or to better understand the scriptures? Do you want to see as many biblical sites as possible? Or do you want to meet as many people of the land, "the living stones," as the program allows. Of course, you might say that you desire all of the above.
Once you have your purpose and list of goals, approach your tour or group leader and share where you are in both anticipation and desire. While there will be others to satisfy in your group, clarity at the outset is of the utmost importance for the group leader and instructor or guide.
If you are a student making this journey, there are course goals to reach and academic requirements to satisfy. A conversation with your faculty representative is in order.
"Next year in Jerusalem!" The time is drawing near. Let the preparations begin!
