Harbingers-of-Spring

The signs of Spring are emerging all around us here in Jerusalem. On Wednesday, the season of Lent began with observances of Ash Wednesday throughout the city. The word, Lent, means "spring" and hints at the "lengthening of days.

Equally, the blooming of almond trees tease of warmer days. The almond is among the first trees to promise more fruitful days.

After one of the wettest and coldest winters in years, one can't help but embrace these harbingers-of-spring. Certainly, the people of the land have rejoiced and given thanks for the rainy season, but this new Spring will be welcomed for all that it promises.
