Tomb of the Kings
The Tomb of the Kings is only steps from our hotel in East Jerusalem.  For years now, it has remained closed to the casual visitor.  My understanding is that only the persistent visitor might find the local family holding the key.  I have been unsuccessful.

This closure to the public is quite a shame.  It is perhaps the best tomb complex for understanding 1st century burial practices.

The tomb belonged to Queen Helene, a pious supporter of Jerusalem in the 1st century.  It was mistakenly identified as the tomb of David's royal family, thus the name.

Thanks to Todd Bolen for revealing what stands behind the locked gates!  See all the photos at www.bibleplaces.com.
