St. Paul UCC Explores Jesus' Ministry at Capernaum |
While at Capernaum, the group examined the scriptures regarding why Jesus chose this town as the base for his ministry. One reason, according Matthew (4:12-17), was to fulfill a prophecy in Isaiah.
A second reason was the more open and inclusive Jewish community found in Capernaum. According to the Talmud, this town followed Hillel in its interpretation of Torah.
Yet a third reason might have been the town's location on the Via Maris, an international highway. The message of his gospel could easily disperse throughout the world via this roadway.
The group concluded the day sailing on the Sea of Galilee. What a beautiful day it was around the lake!
