The Second Day of Christmas

Upon my return from Nashville and our family's celebration of Christmas with our son, I turned on the television. To my surprise, Christmas music was still playing on the music channel.  I left home listening to the sounds of the season, only to return to the continuing sounds of Christmas.

Why the surprise?  As the popular Christmas song says there are twelve days of Christmas.  But in my region, we move quickly past Christmas.  It is packed away in anticipation of a new year or even Valentine's Day.

Protestants and Roman Catholics celebrate Christmas on December 25.  Orthodox  Christians observe the birth of Jesus on January 6.  Between the two dates, there are twelve days given to "more" Christmas and the approaching Epiphany.

Let's take advantage of a "lingering" Christmas season and the varying observances to deepen our understanding of the incarnation, God becoming human.
