These annual meetings are about making new friends and discovering new resources for biblical studies. Of course, every participant also eagerly awaits the renewal of old friendships.
Today, I purchased John Beck's latest contribution to greater biblical understanding. His newest publication is not ground-breaking in a field overcrowded with such books on "manners and customs in Bible times."
However, Beck brings his usual clarity of style and first-hand experience with the land to this highly useful companion to the Bible.
Each entry, such as 'anointing,' is treated with concise cultural interpretation and supported with sufficient biblical references for the reader to walk the bridge between the 1st and 21st century worlds in terms of richer understandings of the biblical text.
You might also wish to check out other works by Beck. See Amazon Books for the entire list.
