Ramadan Begins Today

Ramadan begins today for Muslims and continues through August 19.  It is the ninth month in the Muslim calendar and commemorates the gift of the Quran (Koran).

Able-bodied Muslims are called upon to fast from sunrise to sunset for the entire thirty days.  Evenings are given to community, family, and feasting.  Other observances are the reading of the Quran, prayers, and giving to the needy.

Ramadan is without a doubt the most important observance in Islam.
