Qasr Al-Yahud Beckons

Qasr Al-Yahud beckons you! Literally "the Castle of the Jews," this site along the Jordan River near Jericho marks the place of Jesus' baptism by John. Located just opposite the Jordanian Baptismal Site, Qasr Al-Yahud is a welcomed experience for the pilgrim after the highly commercialized site in the Galilee. But one had better hurry. Israel's Ministry of Tourism is quickly transforming the site with all the familiar facilities and trappings of the Yardenit.

What a shame it will be too. The tranquil spot along the Jordan River provides a quiet setting to contemplate the baptism of Jesus and one's own baptism. In addition, somewhere near here the children of Israel crossed the Jordan under Joshua's leadership. Also, the prophets Elijah and Elisha preceded John in ministry here.

So by all means, come to the river. Qasr Al-Yahud beckons. But come soon! You will not find it in this serene state much longer.
